Durga Chalisa
॥दोहा॥ (Introductory Couplets)
नमो नमो दुर्गे सुख करनी।
नमो नमो अंबे दुःख हरनी॥
Salutations to You, O Goddess Durga, the giver of happiness.
Salutations to You, O Mother Amba, the remover of suffering.
निरंकार है ज्योति तुम्हारी।
तिहूं लोक फैली उजियारी॥
Your divine light is boundless,
And its radiance spreads across all three worlds.
॥चालीसा॥ (Forty Verses)
जय अम्बे गौरी, मैया जय श्यामा गौरी।
तुमको निशदिन ध्यावत, हरि ब्रह्मा शिवरी॥
Victory to You, O Mother Ambe Gauri,
O Goddess, Lord Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva meditate upon You always.
चंद्रकला जग तारिणि, ममता अमृत डारी।
त्रिभुवन मोहित करती, जग पावन कारी॥
You shine like the crescent moon and uplift the world,
You pour the nectar of compassion and purify all three worlds.
चौंसठ योगिनी गावत, नृत्य करत भैरों।
बाजत ताल मृदंगा, और बाजत डमरू॥
The sixty-four yoginis sing Your praises,
While Bhairava dances, playing drums and damaru.
तुम ही जग की माता, तुम ही हो जग प्यारी।
सकल विश्व की स्वामिनी, संकट हरनिहारी॥
You are the Mother of the Universe, dear to all,
You are the Supreme Mistress of the World, the remover of troubles.
भुजा चार अति शोभित, वरमुद्रा धारी।
मनवांछित फल पावत, सेवत नर-नारी॥
Your four arms shine beautifully, holding blessings in Your hands,
Men and women who serve You receive their heart’s desires.
कनक रंग में सजी, श्वेतांबर राजे।
भक्तों की रक्षा करती, शरणागत भाजे॥
You are adorned in golden robes and wear a white sari,
You protect Your devotees and grant them refuge.
शुम्भ-निशुम्भ बिदारे, महिषासुर घाती।
धूम्र विलोचन नैना, निस दिन जपती॥
You destroyed the demons Shumbha and Nishumbha,
And vanquished the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
चंड-मुंड संहारे, रक्तबीज मारे।
मधु-कैटभ को मारा, सुर नर मुनि तारी॥
You slew Chanda and Munda, and destroyed Raktabija,
You killed the demons Madhu and Kaitabha, saving gods, humans, and sages.
माता चंद्रघंटा रूप तिहारा।
सुर-नर मुनि जन सुखकर न्यारा॥
O Mother, Your Chandra Ghanta form
Brings divine bliss to gods, humans, and sages.
कला रूप को आदिक ध्यावे।
सदा भक्तजन सुख संपत्ति पावे॥
Devotees who worship Your form
Are blessed with happiness and prosperity.
जो कोई मां तुमको ध्यावे।
रिद्धि-सिद्धि निश्चय ही पावे॥
Whoever meditates on You, O Mother,
Surely attains spiritual and material wealth.
तुम ही पालनकर्ता स्वरूपा।
निस दिन ध्यावत नर अरू रूपा॥
You are the one who nurtures and sustains,
Men and women always meditate upon You.
जो कोई दुखी हो भवानी।
ताके दुख दूर करे भवानी॥
Whoever is troubled and calls upon You, O Bhavani,
Their sorrows are immediately removed.
जो कोई तुमको नित ध्यावे।
ताके संकट शीघ्र ही जावे॥
Whoever worships You daily,
Their troubles disappear quickly.
मां भवानी दया दृष्टि करहु।
भक्तों के संकट दूर करहु॥
O Mother Bhavani, cast Your merciful gaze,
Remove the troubles of Your devotees.
शरणागत की लाज बचावे।
हरि ब्रह्मा शिव पूजन पावे॥
You protect those who take refuge in You,
Even Vishnu, Brahma, and Shiva worship You.
जो कोई मां की महिमा गावे।
सकल विपत्ति शीघ्र हर जावे॥
Whoever sings the glory of Mother Durga,
All their difficulties soon disappear.
जय जय जय मां जगदंबे भवानी।
सभी जनों की इच्छा पूरी करानी॥
Victory, victory, O Mother Jagadamba Bhavani!
You fulfill the wishes of all Your devotees.
॥दोहा॥ (Closing Couplets)
जो पढ़े दुर्गा चालीसा।
अज्ञानी भी होय ज्ञानी॥
Whoever reads this Durga Chalisa,
Even the ignorant will gain wisdom.
धूप दीप नैवेद्य चढ़ावे।
सकल मनोरथ पूर्ण करावे॥
Those who offer incense, lamps, and food to the Goddess,
Will have all their desires fulfilled.
